Course Objective:

This course aims to help participants explore Anglican theology through the lens of the three-legged stool—Scripture, Tradition, and Reason. Participants will understand how these three elements work together to form a well-rounded approach to interpreting Scripture thoughtfully and pastorally, particularly on complex issues like LGBTQ+ inclusion. The course will focus on how the Anglican tradition fosters inclusivity, grace, and intellectual honesty while navigating contemporary social issues through a balanced theological framework.

Course Introduction:

In the Anglican tradition, theology is built on the careful balance between Scripture, Tradition, and Reason—a model known as the “three-legged stool.” This approach ensures that theology is intellectually robust, historically grounded, and contextually relevant. While Scripture is seen as the ultimate source of authority, Tradition and Reason guide the Church in interpreting the Bible with wisdom, grace, and compassion. In this course, we will explore how the Anglican Church uses this model to address contemporary issues, particularly those surrounding LGBTQ+ inclusion. By examining foundational biblical principles, historical Church teachings, and the insights of modern thought, we will learn how to approach LGBTQ+ issues with a focus on love, justice, and inclusion.
