Engineer • Pastor • Neighbor
“Leadership begins with listening. The most profound spiritual growth occurs when labels are set aside to embrace the richness of life together.”
A Journey of Two Worlds: From Logic to Spirit
The path of Fr. Bill Mok has been defined by bridging different worlds. Born in Guangzhou and immigrating to Canada at seventeen, the professional journey began in the high-tech sector. After earning a degree in Electrical Engineering from McMaster University, seven years were spent as a Software Engineer at various firms across Canada and the United States.
The encounter with the Christian faith during the first year of university served as a turning point, eventually leading to a shift in focus from building systems to building community. In 2005, the transition to pastoral ministry and preaching began, coinciding with full-time study at Tyndale Seminary and resulting in a Master of Divinity in Pastoral and Chinese Ministry.
A Legacy of Pioneering Service
Following the completion of theological studies, service was rendered across a diverse spectrum of settings. Pastoral ministry has spanned multiple Christian denominations, as well as Mandarin-speaking, Cantonese, multicultural, and Canadian local congregations, providing a unique perspective on faith in a globalized, pluralistic world.
Ordained as a priest in 2015, leadership was provided as the Incumbent of St. Elizabeth’s in Mississauga, where the focus remained on building a vibrant, inclusive community. In 2020, a return to the West Coast marked the beginning of a transformative chapter at St. Chad’s Vancouver.
Under this leadership, the St. Chad’s community undertook a courageous “Great Release” in 2022. Recognizing that the life of a mission exists in its movement rather than its walls, the 70-year legacy of St. Chad’s was intentionally redirected toward a new call: planting a spiritual home for the Chinese-speaking and Asian communities in Richmond.
As the Rector of St. Alban’s Richmond and the Founding Pastor of the 360 Community, this journey has culminated in a unique mission. The dedication remains centered on creating a “spacious, gentle environment”—a relational hub where ancient traditions meet modern needs, prioritizing people over programs and listening over dictates.
A Trusted Voice in the Community
Work in advocacy and spiritual care has been featured across local and national media, sharing the vision of the 360 Community and speaking on issues of social justice and mental wellness in both English and Chinese:
- Radio: Featured guest on CBC Radio and Fairchild Radio.
- Press: Frequent contributor and subject of coverage in the Richmond News and Sing Tao Daily.
Grounded in Local Life
The role of priest is inseparable from the role of neighbor. As a parent of two children—one in university and one in elementary school—and a primary caregiver for aging parents, the leadership of the 360 Community is grounded in the real-world joys and challenges faced by all in Richmond.
The central passion of this ministry is to help others encounter Abundant Love and find meaning through diverse wisdom, including the Way of Zen, the Way of the Tao, and Contemplative Christian practice.
Pastoral Services & Support
The office of the Founding Pastor is open to support all of life’s transitions through the following services:
- Life Rites: Baptism, confirmation, weddings, and funerals.
- Pastoral Care: Faith inquiries, hospital visits, and spiritual formation.
- Counseling & Coaching: Pastoral counseling (family, marriage, anxiety, and depression support) and life coaching.
- Workshops: Leading retreats on mental health, mindfulness, and self-care.
